Previously on GZSZ…there was some heart drama with Tuner, Jasmin and Anni were super worried but got each other through it, Anni’s mother wanted her to come home for her father’s 60th birthday and coffee guy is STILL waiting for his order!
We open at the apartment with Anni and Jasmin. Anni sits cutely with her guitar in her lap and tells Jasmin that her father doesn’t want a lesbian daughter. Jasmin sympathetically shrugs and tells her that he’s got one any way. She tries to convince Anni to at least call her father. Stubborn Anni just does not want to (but she calls Jasmin “sweetie” awww). Jasmin reminds Anni that she hasn’t seen her father in years. Anni tells her that there’s a reason for that and after a small hesitation, begins to tell the story of her first girlfriend Judith.
Now I don’t know what is going on here with Janina’s face in this scene, because she looks like she’s about to crack up laughing at any second. Maybe they had fits of the giggles right before shooting this scene, but it just seems odd that Linda has quite serious dialogue, while Janina looks like she’s trying her hardest not to laugh. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind, it’s super cute to watch HAHA.
So back to Anni’s first girlfriend, Judith. They were madly in love with each other and her father caught them kissing one day. He completely lost it on them and called them “You pigs. You perverts. You sickos!”. Anni packed up her bags that night and left home. That’s a pretty sad story, but shows us where Anni’s sense of flight first started. Anything that is too hard for her to handle, she pretty much always runs away. Thank God Jasmin has broken that cycle for her. I just wish we had been told what age Anni was when this happened, would help piece together her back story. Anni continues telling Jasmin, that she’s still sick and she’s still perverted and that there’s no reason to go to her father’s birthday party.
Cut to later on and Anni has half the pantry out on the kitchen bench and is going through all the canned goods. Jasmin cutely stands there watching her before asking her what she’s doing. Anni is all like what does it look like I’m doing? She likes to distract herself with cleaning when the going gets tough doesn’t she? LOL
Anni tells Jasmin that she doesn’t like Tuner being by himself and that they should visit him tomorrow. And Jasmin sneakily suggests that maybe she won’t because she’ll be visiting her parents. HAHA! Jasmin is not one to give in. She then cutely forgets where Anni is from and asks her where…Untermerzbach. Could they not find a more German sounding village for Anni? I think that one is quite generic *wink*
The way that Jasmin says Untermerzbach here just cracks me up. I don’t know why, she just has this funny facial expression. Anni turns around slightly annoyed because she knows what Jasmin is trying to do here. The way they say each other’s names here = SUPER ADORABLE!
If Jasmin looked at me that way, I’d do anything she wanted. Argument instantly won. Yes I will drive to France right now for your morning croissant Jasmin. The end. You win.
Jasmin tries to remind Anni of when her mother came to Berlin and how they were able to talk by the end of the trip. She tries to convince Anni one more time to go to the party but stubborn Anni won’t budge. Finally a defeated Jasmin sadly admits defeat and starts to walk off. But Anni see’s Jasmin’s sweet, little, cute, adorable sad face and gives in. Anni tells her that she’s coming with her. Jasmin excitedly steps in towards Anni pretending to introduce herself to Anni’s father; “Hello Mr Brehme, I’m Jasmin Flemming. Anni’s…” but before she can finish Anni says “Lick sister”!
Jasmin playfully hits Anni, but Anni gets serious for a second and tells her that she is officially her girlfriend and the woman that she loves and that everyone can know.
Way to go Anni! You have come a LOOONG way to be able to freely say these 3 things to Jasmin and we are super thrilled to have been along for that ride. Was just missing a teeny tiny kiss at the end of this scene though…I mean Anni was hungrily looking at Jasmin’s lips all in this last bit…seems odd almost that there wasn’t one here…
Cut to convenience store where Jasmin tells Anni that it will take them 5hrs and 46mins to get to Untermerzbach. She excitedly finds some Nuremberg sausages and brings them to Anni. Anni tells her to pack what she wants and asks the shopkeeper where they keep the licorice wheels. As she goes to get some, Jasmin is all “You like licorice?”. Guess they keep learning new things about each other every day.
Jasmin stops what she is doing and walks over to Anni, kissing her sweetly and it’s actually really hot. WOW! We were NOT expecting that here Jasmin. Can you please do this more often? K, thanks!
Anni asks her what that was for and Jasmin tells her that in 5hrs 46mins she won’t be able to do that any more. As she says this, she cutely runs her fingers underneath Anni’s bra strap.
Anni laughs and tells her that she can kiss her in Untermerzbach as much as she kisses her in Berlin and that her father will just have to deal with it. Jasmin sweetly steps back and tells Anni that she just wants to make a good impression. Awwww Jasmin, you are such a sweetheart. Anni tells her that she’ll pull herself together but until then…
Normally I don’t really like it when Jasmin is taller than Anni but in this scene it works and is totally adorable the way that Anni looks up to Jasmin.
Cut to later on that night and Anni is driving in her cute “night blindness” glasses. She asks Jasmin if there are any more licorice wheels left and looks over to Jasmin who has passed out. Awwww Jasmin…
Then while she is driving she flashes back to her childhood and we get to see little Anni who has fallen off her bike and scrapped her knee. Her father bends down and gives her a licorice wheel…AHA so the licorice means something to Anni. Her father tells her to try again and pushes her along on her bike. She starts riding on her own and her father congratulates her, telling her she’s a real racing cyclist. Awwww what a cute memory, even if the little girl looked nothing like Anni LOL
Cut to later that morning and the birds are chirping and the sun is rising and how cute are they driving along here? I could watch them drive the entire road trip and not get bored.
The satnav tells Anni to turn right. This wakes Jasmin up. Anni ignores the satnav and keeps driving straight. Jasmin is all turn right Anni! Anni tells her that it was a totally shit idea to come. I’m not sure what has happened inside Anni’s mind, because just in the last scene we saw her have a happy memory about her father. So I’m not sure what has made her suddenly think coming was such a shit idea? She tells Jasmin that they’ll just fight again, that he’s stubborn and that he’ll never change. Jasmin tells Anni that that sounds familiar. Jasmin sweetly tells Anni that she is by her side. Awww I heart supportive Jasmin SO MUCH!
Cut to the party…though is it just me, or is it really weird that they are having this in the morning? A morning party? Anni and Jasmin enter the restaurant and Anni immediately tries to back out…telling Jasmin she left her present in the car. Jasmin stops her. I think this is one of the first times that she’s seen Anni totally frazzled like this.
They approach Anni’s parents cautiously. Anni extend her hand to her father wishing him all the best. Awww she’s so super nervous. And I’m super nervous for her, in fact my palms are sweating for her. Anni actually looks really happy here to see her father. Her father just looks like he’s in shock. Anni’s mother hugs her and tells her she’s so glad she came. As she makes small talk, Anni can’t take her eyes off her father. I think secretly she really missed him and wishes he would come to his senses. Anni can not even say a word, but she looks sweetly to Jasmin. Anni’s mother starts introducing Jasmin to Rainer, Anni’s father, telling him she’s Anni’s room mate, Mrs LeRoy, Kurt LeRoy’s wife and that they saw her on TV. Anni tells them that Jasmin is in fact her “girlfriend”, which catches her father off guard.
After an awkward pause, Jasmin quickly jumps in to save the day. She greets Anni’s mother and wishes Anni’s father a happy birthday. PHEW, nice one Jasmin. Rainer tells them to take a seat, but before they do Anni gives Jasmin the cutest “well that went OK” look ever.
Cut to a bit later on and they are all sitting down chatting. Anni looks like she is sitting at a distance from the table AND Jasmin. Anni’s mother asks about Jasmin’s acting etc. Jasmin has to correct her and tell her she’s Flemming again now and that her and Kurt are divorced. Meanwhile, Rainer just sits there staring off into space. Anni’s mother asks Anni how her training is going and when she will be a fully trained sound engineer? Rainer corrects her and says “Sound Technician”. Well that’s a positive sign right there, he pays attention to what she’s studying. HE STILL LOVES HER! AWWWW!!! Anni tells them its going great and that exams are coming up soon. Jasmin tells them that Anni is so diligent too (like that time she was supposed to “study” but instead “studied” Jasmin instead *wink*). Anni’s mother tells them that it’s true, once Anni puts her mind to something, she sees it through. She starts to tell some old story about little Anni and a carnival celebration at preschool…and both Anni and her father quickly jump in like “Ohh nooo not that old story again” and laugh. Awww the way Anni looks at her father here breaks my heart. I want him to be a decent human for her right now, I really do. But he just seems to get more and more uncomfortable. Anni’s mother tells them that they haven’t even eaten yet. So Anni gets up to go get them both food and asks Jasmin what she wants. Jasmin lovingly strokes Anni’s hand and tells her to get whatever, that she knows what she likes.
This does not go down well with Mr Brehme, at all. You can see Anni’s mother grab his hand to calm him down but then he overhears some of the other guests talking about his family. He gets up and goes over to confront Anni. Poor Anni is taken totally unaware. He asks her what she thinks she is doing, is she trying to make a fool out of him in front of everyone and why is she even there? Anni tells him because he invited her! He tells her that HE didn’t invite her. Anni starts to explain that her mother said…but he interrupts her and tells her “Of course. Your mother!”. He tells her Anni’s mother never asked him because HE would NEVER have invited her. OUCH! Not while she’s still a lesbian. He tells her she’s not normal. She says she’s his daughter, to which he replies “I have no daughter!!”.
OMG! Just look at Anni’s little face there at the end! Heart totally shattered. I still can never understand how any parent could ever utter these words to their child. My heart breaks for Anni here, Linda did an amazing job in this episode.
