Previously on GZSZ…Nik crashes his motercycle while trying to avoid hitting a ball on the street. The doctors do all they can but it’s too late and he’s now brain dead. Elena & the Scooby gang all rush to the hospital, where Tuner and Ayla are already and there’s lots of crying and hugging. Anni realises that she needs to tell Jasmin in person and leaves.

Ep 5631

We open on the streets of Berlin with Anni solemnly wandering back to the cafe. She looks completely overwhelmed. We then see Jasmin trying to get into the cafe but the doors are locked. Anni then spots Jasmin from across the street and stops for a second bracing herself.

Meanwhile Jasmin gets her phone out and calls Elena leaving her a voicemail. She ends it by saying that she’s just going to ring her doorbell and walks over to the apartment door. Anni summons her courage and starts walking towards Jasmin, who is now enthusiastically ringing Nik’s doorbell and yelling upstairs for them. Jasmin turns around and see’s Anni standing there. She greets her but immediately senses that something is wrong and asks her about it. Anni just stands there looking down, unable to find the right words. All she can muster up to say is “I don’t know how to tell you”.

Cut to the outside of the hospital with Anni and Jasmin walking up to the entrance. 

As they get closer to the door Jasmin stops while Anni keeps on walking. Jasmin turns around and goes to walk away. Anni notices and runs after her.

Anni calls out after her but Jasmin tells her that she can’t do this. Anni catches up to her and stops her. Jasmin starts to break down, telling Anni that she can’t do this again. 

That she has been to this hospital so many times before, thinking that Nik was going to die, that he was finally happy, he’d found Elena and they just had their wedding.

And at this point she completely loses it and falls into Anni sobbing hysterically.

Cut to a bit later and Anni and Jasmin are now sitting outside the hospital. Jasmin tells Anni that Nik was her first love and that now after the whole thing with Tuner and he’s finally happy again…but now she just can’t do it. Jasmin starts to cry again but fights her tears back. A concerned Anni asks her if they should go back home. She tells her that she’s sure the others would understand. I love when Anni turns into the care taker for Jasmin. The way she looks after her and loves her is very evident here. 

Jasmin starts crying again and tells Anni that she has to say goodbye to Nik. At this point Tuner comes out and they get up to talk to him. Jasmin asks him if he’s seen Nik yet. He tells them that he’s hooked up to machines. At this you can see Anni finally showing a little more emotion and almost cries. Tuner tells them that Nik is dead. Both Anni and Jasmin are now visibly upset as Jasmin asks why all the machines if he’s dead. He tells them it’s because Nik is an organ doner. Jasmin bursts out crying again while Anni comforts her with her hand on her back. Tuner tells them that Dr G won’t consent to them taking Nik’s organs, as he still thinks he’s just in a coma. Both him and Elena couldn’t convince him either. Tuner starts to lose it and Jasmin gathers all her strength and tells him that she’ll talk to Dr G and heads for the entrance. 

Inside Nik’s room, we see Elena and Dr G sitting and looking solemnly at Nik, who has tubes coming from his mouth and has machines all hooked up to him. Jasmin quietly enters and goes over to hug Elena. They both cry into each other for a moment. Jasmin stands there for a moment looking at Nik and says “He looks as if he were sleeping”. Dr G tells her that they claim that Nik is dead but that it’s nonsense because he’s still warm. He grabs Jasmin’s hand and places it on Niks. He tells her that he senses that she’s there. Jasmin tears her hand away and tells Dr G that it’s just the machines keeping him alive. She crouches down next to Dr G, crying and tells him that Nik is dead. And all our hearts break at Janina’s performance.

Dr G shakes his head, unwilling to believe it. He says “But he’s my son!”. And everyone in the room, and us, completely lose it. Jasmin tells Dr G that Nik would have wanted it this way (the organ donation) and he finally nods his head in agreement. 

Cue the soppy sad montage. In the corridor Jasmin sits with Dr G as Tuner arrives back. Dr G goes over and hugs him. Elena is now all alone in Nik’s room with him and gently strokes his hand. Sophie arrives at the hospital and comforts Dr G as we see Leon at home looking super down (presumably because now that this has happened Sophie can’t possibly leave Dr G now). And Elena heartbreakingly climbs up onto Nik’s bed and lays next to him one last time. 

The next morning (wow have they all been sitting around the hospital that WHOLE night?) the doctor comes to talk to Dr G. The doctor tells him that they tried everything but Nik’s injuries were just too severe. The doctor starts rambling about the organ donation but Dr G stops him and tells him that it’s what Nik would have wanted. He says “My son is dead” and in the background you can see Jasmin start to cry again. Dr G takes the forms for the organ donation and takes them in to Nik’s room for him and Elena to sign. Everyone out in the corridor is now crying away. Jasmin falls into Anni’s arms again as Anni grabs her head. 

Cue more super sad music as Dr G comes into Nik’s room with the form. Elena takes the clipboard and looks at Nik, crying, and then signs the form. She gives it to a distraught Dr G and then he signs as well. 

Ep 5632

The next episode opens with a series of characters all saying their goodbyes to Nik. First up is Tuner. He tells Nik that he should have been the one lying there, that they’ll see each other again and that he’s his best friend. 

Jasmin sits down next and says “What would I have done without you? I guess I have to get myself out of the shit from now on. But…I’ll make it. I promise.” She gently kisses him before she says goodbye.

I think it’s actually quite fitting that Anni is nowhere to be seen in this episode after she says that. I think that the writers are hinting at a strengthening of Jasmin’s character here…that she will have to learn how to get out of situations on her own in future. Though it really makes me wonder where the hell Anni actually is…my guess would have to be at work or at school. Though I would have imagined that she would have skipped both of those things to be there for Jasmin…

Next is Elena, who gently strokes Nik’s head and tells him that she loves him forever (in Spanish) before kissing him on the cheek.

Dr G then tells Nik that he never got to tell him how much he means to him. And after a few moments, finally bids him farewell.

The nurse then comes to take Nik’s body and they wheel him out into the corridor with everyone there, and the dramatic music cranks up. They put him in the elevator and the door slowly closes as we see a close up of Elena’s distraught face.

Everyone heads back to the cafe, where it suddenly becomes SO real at how fast all this happened. All the things from the wedding party are still there; photos, decorations, cake. Elena looks completely overwhelmed and Jasmin quickly suggests to her that maybe she should come back with them to their apartment first and takes her out of there. Tuner starts cleaning up and Mesut says he’ll help. Nele goes after Elena and Jasmin back to the apartment as well. Mesut then asks Tuner if they are throwing everything away and he says yes. 

Back at the hospital Dr G and Sophie are being walked out by the doctor. Dr G tells him that he’s sure they did everything they could for Nik. The doctor reassures Dr G that Nik’s organs will go to save other lives now. Dr G asks how long it will take and he’s told a few hours. The doctor offers his condolences once again and leaves them. As Dr G and Sophie head to his car, he stops and tells her that he can’t leave now, that he has to stay until it’s all over. They then head back into the hospital. 

Over at the apartment, the girls show Elena into Nele’s room. Nele tells Elena that she can stay as long as she likes and Elena thanks her. Jasmin suggests to Elena that she lay down and she climbs onto the bed. Ayla comes in and offers her some peppermint tea, which is sweet….but it only sets Elena off. She curls up on the bed and starts sobbing with all the girls surrounding her. 

At the cafe Mesut and Tuner are cleaning up. Mesut goes over to Tuner to offer him some male comfort and tells him that Nik was a good guy. And that if he ever wants to talk or grab a drink, that he’s his man. Tuner looks more annoyed than anything else…maybe he thinks Mesut is trying to replace Nik?

Cut back to the apartment, Elena is sobbing on the bed and Jasmin has make up running down all over her face from crying.

This scene made me feel a little awkward because I feel like she should just be left alone to grieve by herself. I get that the girls want to comfort her, but if it was me, I’d just want to be left alone to ugly cry by myself.

At the hospital we see Dr G sitting in a waiting area. Sophie brings him some water and he thanks her for everything. 

Tuner goes upstairs to clean the apartment which is full of decorations and red balloons. He starts shoving them into his rubbish bag (here’s a tiny tip Tuner, the balloons would all fit better if you just pop them #yourwelcome). He suddenly stops and sees Nik come waltzing in with some pizza. He starts remembering the good times he’s had with him in the apartment and he finally breaks down and cries for real. 

Back at the hospital we see Nik in surgery as they remove all his vital organs and we see Dr G and Sophie waiting outside. We finally hear the flat line of the heart monitor and Dr G stops pacing, as if he can sense that Nik is now officially gone. He turns around to see 3 nurses all carrying the organ donation containers. And as they walk past him he loses the ability to stand any more and collapses onto the ground crying. 

This is the point where I completely lost it as well. Superbly acted by Wolf, BRAVO! I cried like a baby when I watched this scene. 

In the final shot we see Nik lying in the surgery room. They remove all his tubes and finally cover him with a sheet.

Goodbye Nik. I never really watched many of your scenes, but you will be missed.
