Previously on GZSZ…Dr G wants to bury Nik in the family tomb even after Tuner and Elena tell him that Nik’s wishes were to have his ashes scattered at some lake. Little Johanna accidentally walks in and overhears Dr G telling Sophie that Nik is dead and the Scooby Gang all have happy flashbacks of Nik, including my favourite one of Anni telling him that she’s a lesbian.

Ep 5636

We open on a VERY happy Nele and Mesut, kiss walking to the front door with a bottle of champagne. Mesut tells Nele that they will have to drink it later, to which Nele says “Or during”. Ummm OKAY Nele…if you want champagne to go absolutely EVERYWHERE!

As they open the front door we see a solemn Anni and Jasmin coming out of the bathroom, where I assume Jasmin has had a good cry on Anni’s shoulder. Nele and Mesut come bounding in as if they’ve just come home from Disneyland and Jasmin gives them the death stare. They quickly lose their smiles. Jasmin tells Anni that she’s going to wear her black blouse and black pants and asks her what she’ll be wearing. Do you even really need to ask Jasmin? Of course Anni replies with “Black”.

   

Jasmin then asks Mesut what he’ll be wearing and he also replies with black. Nele says that hopefully she can find something appropriate since everything she owns has flowers on it. Jasmin rightly reminds her that if she can’t find anything in her closet, then she should just check Anni’s. HAHA! Jasmin suddenly becomes overwhelmed and slaps her outfit down on the table. 

She says “What is this shit? Man! I…I just don’t get it! Dominik, he…he was always there for me! Always! Whenever I needed him, he was there. And now, he’s suddenly gone! Everybody is happy. You two are happy. We are happy…”. Anni tries to comfort Jasmin but she doesn’t want it and runs off to the bathroom. And while Jasmin was talking, we saw Nele trying to hide her engagement ring. 

A bit later on, Nele is indeed struggling to find something appropriate to wear from her closet. She holds up a dark blue dress and tells Mesut that she thinks it’s best if she asks Anni for something black to wear. Mesut points to a dark dress and asks Nele if she could wear that one. She pulls it out and tells him that it’s purple.  She sits down on her bed, telling Mesut that it was super weird earlier. That she was so happy and had completely forgotten about Nik already. Mesut sits down next to her, agreeing that it wasn’t that appropriate barging in with champagne and everything. Nele tells him that it’s all so hard right now and that maybe they shouldn’t really tell anyone about their engagement yet. Mesut agrees and tells her that they will tell them all when the time is right. She then takes off her ring and puts in her drawer.

Mesut sneaks down into the kitchen to put the champagne into the fridge and checks the bathroom. And since no one is there, he tells Nele to come down. And tells her to go get their rings so they can celebrate. Nele runs down with them and as he’s opening the champagne, she slips the rings on. Just then we hear keys jingle in the door, and in their panic, Mesut puts the champagne into the trash, while Nele hides her ring in the nearest coffee cup. Jasmin and Anni enter in a cloud of black sadness and Jasmin tells them that she’s glad that’s over. When Nele questions her, she tells them that they had to order the flowers for tomorrow. Jasmin then walks over and grabs her coffee cup and Mesut quickly goes to grab it, telling her that he’ll make her some fresh coffee. But Jasmin takes it anyway saying that she likes cold coffee and starts drinking. Both Nele and Mesut run towards her yelling NOOOOO!!!!

Jasmin almost chokes on the ring and spits it out, asking if it’s theirs. Nele tells them that she didn’t think it was the right time to tell them because everyone’s so sad and she didn’t want Elena to hear about it either. Mesut tells them that he was going to wait with the proposal but Nele coerced him early. Both Anni and Jasmin still don’t look happy or impressed and Anni remarks that it figures that that’s what happened. Nele tells them that it’s not what they think. That she woke up that morning to a note that said “Be right back” and she panicked. Mesut tells them “Yeah, she was all WHERE WERE YOU?! I was worried sick! I thought something had happened to you!”. Anni and Jasmin still have solemn looks on their faces here as Mesut offers them some champagne.

Anni takes the champagne and sweetly nudges Jasmin with her shoulder, half smiling at her. In another brilliant moment of how well they know each other and how well their chemistry bounces off each other, Jasmin finally cracks and breaks out smiling. 

She throws down her kitchen towel and yells “Man! We’re happy for you!!!” and hugs a REALLY relieved Nele. Anni cracks up laughing. 

Jasmin tells Nele that finally something positive has happened and she’s sure that Nik would have been happy for them too. Jasmin asks to see the ring as Nele looks super cute, gushing away. Jasmin tells Nele that it’s beautiful and it’s a good thing that she didn’t swallow it. Sensible Anni then asks them both if they’re sure they want to do this. Mesut jokes that he was coerced after all and Nele nudges him. Jasmin then toasts to them with the champagne as they all toast “to love”. Awwww what a cute episode in amongst all this sadness that is December. Great job, GZSZ writing team once again! Cheers to YOU!
